MASSOB condemns proposed traditional title for Ganduje

MOVEMENT for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday condemned the proposed traditional chieftaincy title to be given to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State by HRH, Eze Eberechi Dick in Aba, Abia State.

Members of the Movement for the Survival of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) during their rally to mark the 17th anniversary of the movement, yesterday, in Awka, Anambra State.

The group which described the proposal as a slap on Ndigbo wondered at the rationale for such eloquent honour on a man alleged to have always exhibited ethnical hatred for Ndigbo.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki by the National Director of Information of MASSOB, Comrade Edeson Samuel, the group threatened that it will never allow Governor Ganduje to step his foot in Aba or the palace of HRM, Eberechi Dick, describing the conferrer as a major Biafra saboteur if he decides to go ahead with the conferment of the traditional title on the governor.

“The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has condemned the proposed traditional chieftaincy title on Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the governor of Kano State by HRM, Eze Eberechi Dick.
“Mere proclamation of such installation is a traditional slap on Ndigbo. What is the rationale for such eloquent honour to a man who grossly and disrespectfully dishonoured and exhibited venoms of ethnical hatred for Ndigbo.

“There are many alleged atrocities and evils committed against Ndigbo by Governor Ganduje. In the case of the alleged murder of an Igbo woman named Mrs Bridget Agbahime in Kano state by sponsored Islamic fundamentalists, Governor Ganduje did nothing in the prosecution of the prime suspects.

“MASSOB recalled that on June 2, the 74-year-old kitchen utensils trader from Imo State was brutally attacked and killed at Kofar Wambai market in Kano by a Muslim mob who accused her of blasphemy. According to Biafra Intelligence Agency’s report, she was pounced upon and murdered after she refused to allow a Muslim man perform ablution in front of her shop.

“And five months into the incident, more than enough time for Governor Ganduje and the Kano State government to have arrived at a closure on that act of bestiality, what did the family get? Just when they were bracing up for a firm prosecution that will lead to conviction, they were treated to the familiar abracadabra that is peculiar to the country’s legal system.

“In what must go down as a classic judicial swindle, the chief magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, acting on the advice of the Attorney General of Kano State through Governor Ganduje discharged the suspects and terminated the case.”

Sadly, the Nigerian men are scared to approach them for marriage leaving them frustrated and devastated.

Be patriotic, Obiano urges Corps members

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra has called on corps members posted to the state to discharge their duties during their service year with the spirit of patriotism, and to work as teams.

Obiano gave the admonition at the closing of the Orientation Camp at the Temporary Orientation Site, Umunya in Oyi Council Area on Monday.
The governor, who was represented by Mr Bonaventure Enemali, Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, charged them to contribute their quota to the development of the state, using their intellect, resourcefulness, energy and positive attitude.

He said Anambra was happy to have the corps members posted to the state and assured them of hospitality of the people, to enable them excel during the service year.

“You are advised to approach the rural populace with open mind and be ready to complement their efforts with your skills and talent, so that you will leave an indelible and enduring mark in the hearts of the members of your host communities,” he said.
In his speech, Mr Kehinde Aremu, Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra, congratulated Corps members for successful camping exercise.

Aremu said a total of 2,200 members of the 2018 Batch B Stream One had been successfully posted to their places of primary assignment.

He urged them to see themselves as catalysts of positive change, good ambassadors of the NYSC and shining examples for other youths to emulate.
“I implore all Corps employers to assign them challenging responsibilities commensurate with their qualifications and status,” the coordinator said.

He thanked Rt Rev Owen Nwaokolo, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese on the Niger and the host communities for accommodating the scheme, while expressing hope that work at the permanent site would be completed soon, for them to relocate.

Obiano’s aide, Chima dies in his sleep

A Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Mr. Randie Chima, has been reported dead.

Chima, according to government sources, was found dead in his room at Nwakpodulu Avenue, Awka, the Anambra State capital.

A Senior Special Assistant to Obiano on Television Documentary, Chima, was reportedly “hale and hearty” at his last outing on Friday.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “I’m surprised to hear this story. That Randie is dead? We were together on Friday. He was hale and hearty. A good man is gone. Randie exercised almost regularly at Ekwueme Square.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the story yesterday.
He said: “There was a report at B Division, Awka, that one Randie Chima, aged 57 years, of Nwakpodulu Avenue and SSA to Anambra State Governor on Audio Visual Productions, slept the previous night and did not open his door the next day.

“When the door was eventually forced opened after several knocks by his neighbours, his body was found on the bed.

“Following the report, Police detectives attached to B Division, Awka, led by the DCO, visited the scene, photographed the victim and rushed him to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor.”

Woman gives birth to quintuplets in Awka

It was jubilation galore in Awka, yesterday, when a woman from Abia State, Mrs Ifeoma Ogbonnaya, was delivered of quintuplets at Life International Hospital, Awka, Anambra State capital.

Immediately the news got out, many trooped to have a glimpse, but were disappointed as the babies were moved into the incubator.
The quintuplets, three boys and two girls, weighed 2.15k, 2.15kg 2kg, 1.8kg and 1.8kg, respectively.
Father begs for help

The father of the quintuplets, Mr. Nwaka Ogbonnaya, 38, was overwhelmed with joy but expressed fears about his ability to shoulder the responsibility.
He called for government assistance to ensure the five children are adequately taken care of and noted that God answered their prayers according to their wish.

According to him, “I am extremely happy for these bundles of joy. The mixture is actually what we prayed for: three boys and two girls. They are now six because we already had a female child. I am a fulfilled man and I am very happy. I glorify God for His mercies.”

Ogbonnaya, who sells provisions at Alaba International Market, Owerri, Imo State, called on government, philanthropists, politicians and churches to come to his rescue, saying “the task of bringing up the children in this hostile economy is not an easy one. It is not easy to handle five children at once no matter how rich you are.
“I need assistance, especially from companies that produce baby food.”

He appealed to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Senator Moa Ohuabunwa representing Abia North senatorial district, Christian and non-governmental bodies to come to their aid in bringing up the children.
His words: “This is a thing of joy, not a thing of tears. It is God’s gift, well appreciated because God does not give His gifts with sorrows but rather with joy. We prayed for a child and after four years we had our first child Precious. But we never anticipated five at a go.”

Motherhood
In a brief interview, the mother of the quintuplets, Mrs Ifeoma Nwaka, 34, from Avomimi Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka council, Anambra State, but married to an Arochukwu man, Abia State, appealed to the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, to mobilise for the upkeep of the children as their provision store business in Imo State has collapsed since the scan revealed the number of children in her womb.
She said: ‘’When I was told the result of the scan, my heart bled, but since God knows why he granted me five babies at a time.

“I appeal to Anambra Deputy Governor, my brother, Dr. Nkem Okeke and our traditional ruler, Igwe Ralph Ekpe, as well as other good-spirited individuals and religious organisations to come to our aid, because our provision business in Owerri came to zero as my husband was running around.”

She said she was amazed to carry the five babies to delivery even as she said Professor Ikechebelu was ahead of all her fears, especially when he performed cervical cerclage three months into the pregnancy to prevent any eventualities.
She appealed, specially, to the wife of Anambra Governor, Chief Mrs Willie Obiano and her Non-Governmental Organization, CAFE, to come to her aid.

The doctor
A fertility expert and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, who handled the delivery, said this was the first time quintuplets were delivered in the facility.
He said: “We give all thanks to God for this miracle. The woman conceived 36 weeks ago following assisted reproductive technology and by God’s grace, all five embryos developed and matured to this date of delivery.

”One of the marvelous things in her pregnancy is that the woman remained in good health throughout the duration of her pregnancy and was on admission in this hospital for the past two weeks, essentially to allow more time for fetal maturity before her delivery today.
“This brings to over 130 babies delivered through this method in our facilities here in Awka and Nnewi.”

A consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the hospital, Dr. Duke Onyeabochukwu, joined the couple in soliciting assistance of well-meaning Nigerians.
According to him, “some facilities charge not less than N20,000 for babies to stay in incubator and now the five children will be in incubator for at least one week.
“That is why it is necessary for them to be assisted financially. I even learned that the man abandoned his job to assist his wife.”
